This summer the 2002 Heritage Camps will feature a pair of five-day runs on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, with each session providing attendees an atmosphere of learning that is both culturally stimulating and academically sound.

Created by the Heritage Educational Group, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, in partnership with the California State University, the Heritage Camps offer children in grades 2-6 a chance to improve their math and reading skills as well as increase their cultural awareness.

Campus partners in this year's sessions at Cal Poly Pomona include the Division of Student Affairs, the African American Student Center and the Black Faculty/Staff Association.

The first session runs July 15-19, with the second session running July 29-August 2. Each day's camp begins at 8 a.m. with a full schedule of activities finishing at 3 p.m. Each five-day session curriculum includes morning motivation, arts & crafts, afro-aerobics/yoga, math clinics, reading readiness, knowledge of self, unity circle roundtable discussions and money smarts pointers provided by Washington Mutual Bank. There will also be elder enlightenment talks provided by community representatives.

Camp registration is $200 per session, with an extended activities period (3-6 p.m.) is available for an additional $75 fee.

For additional information on the camps and registration, call (909) 590-8464 or (909) 517-9066, or go to the website at www.heritagecamp.cjb.net.
