From hissing cockroaches to scorpions to exotic grasshoppers, if it crawls it is surely to enthrall at the annual Insect Fair.
More than 500,000 live and preserved insects and other arthropods from around the world will be displayed on Oct. 8 and 9. This year, the Insect Fair will move from the Bronco Student Center to the university’s AGRIscapes Center (next to the Farm Store) so that it can be adjacent to the Pumpkin Festival, which runs simultaneously.

The 24th Annual Pumpkin Festival at Cal Poly Pomona will celebrate California agriculture by offering families all these fun activities and more. The festival will be held Oct. 8 and 9 at the university’s AGRIscapes Center.
The two-day event kicks off Cal Poly Pomona’s Month of Pumpkins. After the festival ends, the Pumpkin Patch will be open every day from Oct. 11 until Oct. 30 for visitors to pick their very own pumpkins.

The annual Pumpkin Festival rolls into Cal Poly Pomona this weekend boasting new attractions, games and entertainment.
The 23rd annual Pumpkin Festival will take place Oct. 17-18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Farm Store at Cal Poly Pomona, 4102 S. University Drive, off Temple Avenue.
A new “Ag Discovery Lane” will feature free exhibits, displays and demonstrations from farmers and growers. It will include a children’s activity zone with fun activities for the younger ones, like squash tunnels and a hay pyramid.
Other activities include:
- A treasure hunt in the corn maze
- Pumpkin-themed contests throughout the festival: pie eating, pumpkin carving, seed spitting and pumpkin costume contest
To symbolize that everyone can make a difference, participants in the 10th annual Matt’s Run 5K run/walk are encouraged to wear the costume of their favorite superhero.
At the Oct. 17 event, runners and walkers will traverse the scenic landscape of Cal Poly Pomona, past academic buildings, citrus groves, vineyards and pastures, with close-up views of Arabian horses, farm animals and architecturally stunning buildings that house student research projects. The race ends in front of the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center.

The harvest for Cal Poly Pomona’s 23rd Annual Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 17-18 has begun. For the next three weeks, pumpkins will be harvested at the university’s 40-acre pumpkin patch in Chino.
Chad Cleveland, Westwind Ranch farm manager, planted 13 varieties of pumpkins for their various characteristics, such as disease resistance, size and vine vs. bush growing style. Pumpkins take about 100 days to mature, and the fields were planted just after the fourth of July.
