Technology Symposium Scheduled at CBA on May 13

Speakers from Disney, Tinder, Red Hat and Crowdstrike will headline the Technology Symposium on May 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the College of Business Administration. The annual symposium, held by Students with an Interest in the Future of Technology club, is open to faculty, staff and students with an interest in computer system administration, network administration and cybersecurity. Workshops and presentations by student speakers also are scheduled. For more information, go to club’s Facebook page.

Water Operations and Quality Sampling in Building 81

Cal Poly Pomona is regulated as a public water system due to the number of people on campus and the complexity of providing potable water. Routine water quality sampling is conducted quarterly at four locations to verify that the university is meeting quality standards.

In a recent sampling, levels of Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM) were found to exceed EPA guidelines by two parts per billion at one test location — Building 81, the Facilities Management offices on the southeast edge of campus. Tests at the other three locations were within the guidelines. (Results collected are averaged on a yearly basis for each respective sampling site.)

Nominations Sought for George P. Hart Award

The committee for the 2017 George P. Hart Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership is now accepting nominations.

The faculty member chosen for the prestigious award will be someone who displays the highest traditions of academic life and Professor Hart’s outstanding personal qualities. The award, along with the $1,000 honorarium, will be presented at the Academic Affairs Fall Conference meeting. Visit http://www.cpp.edu/~hartaward/ for additional information about the award.

Chávez Week 2017: César Chávez Silent Unity March

A César E. Chávez Center for Higher Education signature event. The fifth event in the week’s tribute to civil rights and labor movement activist César E. Chávez.  Calling all folks from all identities to come together to show solidarity and unity as students, staff and faculty march through the Cal Poly Pomona campus.  This serves as the culminating event of the week as a tribute to Chávez’ commitment to social justice and respect for human dignity. The Degrees of Change exhibit is a fascinating display of Cal Poly Pomona’s transition from an all-male school to a co-ed university, documenting the experiences of women on campus. Discovery Camps for Kids & Young Adults at Cal Poly in Summer 2017

The Cal Poly Pomona College of Science, Arabian Horse Center and Student Innovation Idea Lab are offering summer camps for kids and young adults. The camp offerings include horse, computer, robotics, science, imagination, leadership and entrepreneurship. Send your kids somewhere fun and educational this summer.
