The Cal Poly Universities’ Rose Parade float, Aquatic Aspirations.

The Tournament of Roses will feature a behind-the-scenes look at the Cal Poly Universities’ Rose Float program during a televised New Year’s Day special. The segment will showcase the year-long process of creating award-winning floats each year, including design, construction and décor.

“The Rose Parade’s New Year Celebration” will also include musical performances, marching bands and New Year’s wishes from fans across the world. Viewers can also experience elements from past parades virtually through an augmented reality experience exclusively from Honda on Snapchat.

The special will air on ABC, Hallmark Channel, KTLA, NBC and RFD-TV at 8 a.m. PST and on Univision at 7 a.m. PST on Jan. 1. All new footage for the special was filmed using the strictest COVID-19 safety protocols.

The Cal Poly Universities’ float is the only student-designed and student-built entry in the Rose Parade. A joint effort by students at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo since 1949, the team has won 59 awards, including the 2019 Extraordinaire Award.

Visit the Tournament of Roses webpage for more information on the televised special.
