Art, the Barrio and Chicana/o Activism

In a dynamic lecture on Nov. 17, Álvaro Huerta, associate professor in urban and regional planning, and ethnic and women’s studies, will focus on the barrio and Chicana/o activism through the use of fine art, murals and photography. This includes highlighting the art of acclaimed painter Salomón Huerta (his sibling) that humanizes los de abajo, those on the bottom, against racist narratives, practices and policies towards brown people.
