Laurie Starkey, chemistry professor and 2013 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, doesn’t typically use Blackboard for her courses. She prefers to use a website that’s open to any student to share her organic chemistry learning resources.
But with the COVID-19 crisis, she adopted Blackboard to allow her students to turn in assignments, take tests and access lectures. Professor Starkey carefully organized her Blackboard course to be easy for students to navigate.
Her redesigned Blackboard menu and folders are displayed below. It’s easy to figure out what needs to be done, the language is direct yet friendly, and she even includes a link to a helpful resource for the assignment. Organization benefits faculty as well as students.
My reorganized site is infinitely more useful for my students and will help me stay on top of things too. I am already feeling less overwhelmed!”
