The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs announced on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, that Dean Joseph Rencis of the College of Engineering has decided to transition from his role as dean to a faculty role. This decision aligns with Dean Rencis’ longtime commitment to STEM education and to promoting the profession of engineering. The change in leadership will be effective June 30, 2020.
A nationally recognized engineering educator, Dean Rencis came to Cal Poly Pomona after holding leadership positions at Tennessee Tech University and at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He also spent two decades as a member of the faculty at Worcester Polytechnic University in Massachusetts.
Provost Alva plans to conduct a national search to find the next dean and will recruit broadly for an interim appointment to assume leadership of the college on July 1.
