The math was easy for the Department of Chemistry. In honor of its 50th anniversary, it’s attempting to raise $50,000 to endow a scholarship.
The driving force behind the Chemistry (Au) Golden 50th Anniversary Scholarship is Professor Emeritus Ernie Simpson, who began his career at Cal Poly Pomona in 1968, one year prior to chemistry hatching its own department within the College of Science.
The scholarship is “my way of honoring the people whose shoulders we’ve stood on and learned from,” said Simpson, who had led many initiatives during his lengthy and widespread involvement at CPP.
