Open House for Student Services Building Set for Jan. 18

Posted on January 7, 2019

The Student Services Building.
University President Soraya M. Coley and other campus administrators will usher in the opening of the Student Services Building on Jan. 18 with an open house.

The campus community is invited to attend an open house and reception for the Student Services Building, which becomes the new hub for the delivery of services that drive student success.

University President Soraya M. Coley and other university administrators will usher in the official opening of the facility with festivities starting around noon on Jan. 18. The SSB opening coincides with the start of the spring semester.

The opening of the Student Services Building (SSB) will include refreshments and tours of the new 138,000-square-foot facility.

Many services that were contained on various floors of the CLA Building are now housed in two sections under one roof, offering more efficient and streamlined services to students. FAQs and a map of the floor plan are available online.

When students enter the main lobby of the first floor, they will see two electronic kiosks with touch screens that will show them where to go for services or direct them to the appropriate department to have a question answered.

The first floor also will contain a concierge desk staffed by advisors who are cross-trained to answer questions ranging from academic advisement to financial aid. If issues are complex and require detailed discussions, private counseling rooms are available.

The new facility will not only centralize and streamline services to students, the SSB will become the architectural jewel of the campus and gives Cal Poly Pomona a true front door to the university. One distinct design trait of the SBB is the low-slung, undulating roofline, which echoes the hills that make up the rolling landscape of the campus.

The SSB is part of the legacy of President Emeritus J. Michael Ortiz, who spearheaded the project. Focused on serving students, Ortiz wanted to make it easier for them to find the people and resources they need.

Key student services, divisions and departments are located on the following floors of the SSB:
