Professor Lisa Alex from the chemistry & biochemistry department in the College of Science will receive this year’s George P. Hart Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership.
In her 20 years at Cal Poly Pomona, Alex has demonstrated a sustained record of leadership to the university at all levels, most notably on the Academic Senate where she has served as a senator since 2005.
During her time in the Senate, she has been a member of the academic affairs, elections and procedures, ad hoc academic planning and executive committees. In addition she served as Academic Senate vice-chair from 2008 to 2010 and chair from 2010 to 2012.
Alex was the College of Science outstanding advisor in 2006, served 18 years as faculty advisor for science council, and received an ASI Honorary Lifetime Membership in 2010.
In 2011, she took on the role of department chair in the chemistry & biochemistry department, where she helped make positive changes in the RTP and lecturer review processes, acquired funding for facility and equipment improvements, hired new faculty and staff, and shepherded the department through semester conversion. Most recently, she was appointed as a Presidential Fellow on the University Strategic Planning committee.
Alex will be presented with the award at the Provost’s Awards for Excellence and the George P. Hart Award Symposium on March 7, 2019 in the BSC Ursa Major, from 3 to 5 p.m.
