One of Cal Poly Pomona’s strategic initiatives is to advance organizational development and employee excellence, with the goal of becoming recognized as a great place to work.
Our Campus, Your Future, with activities and learning opportunities for faculty and staff, is a significant step in that direction. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6, is designed to promote the value of workplace learning, wellness and technology.
“It is more important now than ever to refine and grow our capabilities,” said Kim Allain, associate vice president for employee and organizational development and advancement. “There is a clear need to develop skills like collaboration, coaching, personal effectiveness, adaptability and flexibility to change. These skills will help promote and sustain employees’ well-being and improve the work culture for everyone.”
Attendees will be able to:
- Discover workplace learning opportunities in the coming year
- Understand the impact of healthy habits on performance and learn how small changes can lead to big results
- Participate in collaboration exercises
- See the new digital applications from IT, including the learning portal, SumTotal
The event is designed for faculty and staff to participate when they are available during the four-hour general session.
“You may stay for the entirety or whatever amount of time your schedule allows.” Allain said. “For those who register for the ‘food for thought’ part of the event, a complimentary lunch will be provided. Space is limited though, so register early.”
One of the highlights of the event will be a presentation by best-selling author and self-described positivity activist Shola Richards. Over the course of his career, Richards has trained thousands on topics including team cohesion, world-class customer service, transformational leadership, effective communication, and how to deal with difficult customers.
He says his mission is simple: Help people live and work with more positivity.
“His message is inspiring and engaging,” Allain said. “With the energy he brings to the room, you can’t help but feel better about the contributions we all make to advance our university.”
