Tricia Alicante, graduate advisor for the College of Business Administration, died on Oct. 10, her 36th birthday, after a short but courageous battle with a rare form of liver cancer.

Alicante, who worked at Cal Poly Pomona for more than 11 years, was remembered for her professionalism and kindness.

“Tricia was the perfect balance of consummate professional and compassionate peer, and it was a pleasure working with her. She’ll always be remembered for her kindness, optimism and positive impact she had on students, staff and faculty,” said Associate Dean Cheryl Wyrick.

Services will be held Monday, Oct. 22 at noon at Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mortuary in Rowland Heights.

Alicante is survived by her husband, Casey Shafer, and their 8-week-old son, Liam Shafer.

Education was very important to Tricia. During her time at Cal Poly Pomona she advised hundreds of graduate students as she guided them down their educational paths. To honor her legacy, a college fund has been created for her young son. Inquiries should be sent to Kat Pettengill at liamshafercollegefund@gmail.com.
