The 2018 Spring Career Fair will include a record 225 employers providing students with information about career opportunities, gathering resumes and networking to find their next top recruits. The fair will be held on Thursday, April 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the University Quad.
“The majority of the employers have attended the Career Fair for multiple years. They know our learn-by-doing philosophy, and that our students have a strong education, hands-on experience and work experience. They know our graduates are excellent employees,” said Tom Munnerlyn, director of the Career Center at Cal Poly Pomona.
Among the new employers to the fair this year are the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, the Compass Group, Inc. and PBF Torrance Refining Co. Returning firms include City Year; RSM, LLP; PepsiCo; Bimbo Bakeries and DHL Supply Chain.
The National Geospatial Intelligence Agency was so impressed by the Cal Poly Pomona students they met last week, said Munnerlyn, that they decided to come back for the Career Fair and do more information sessions. The agency is seeking students majoring in computer information systems, geography, math, business and other areas.
What Students Need to Do
To make the most of the Career Fair, Munnerlyn suggests the following steps:
- Make sure your resume is up-to-date – The Career Center can review and help students be sure that their resume includes the essential skills employers are looking for among other tips.
- Practice your 30-second infomercial about what you have to offer to the organization and the position you hope to get. Career services can help you create your message.
- Wear business attire – Even though some employers will be in business casual, they expect students to wear business attire. If a new business outfit doesn’t fit your budget, the Center’s Clothes Closet has business attire for students that they can select and keep free of charge. On April 19, selections from the Closet will be outside the Career Center for student shoppers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students can also visit the Clothes Closet Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Career Center Appointments
Monday through Friday, drop-in sessions are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or students can make an appointment through the Handshake platform located on the Career Services website. Students will need to activate their account, if they have not already, using their Broncos login information. Students can also use Handshake to find out which employers will be attending and what positions they are looking to fill.
