Have you ever dreamed of designing something spectacular like a Rose Parade float? Do you love to sketch, tell stories or draw fanciful images. Has music played a special role in your life?
The design contest for the 2019 Cal Poly Universities Rose Float is now open, and your idea could be brought to life. The winner will receive $500 or two Rose Bowl tickets.
The 2019 parade theme is “‘The Melody of Life,” celebrating music, the universal language.
“Music has the power to not only bring us together but take us back to memories and moments as nothing else can,” said Gerald Feeny, the president of the 2019 Tournament of Roses. “Rhythm, melody, harmony and color all come together to create the soundtrack that defines our lives.”
Entries should be a black and white sketch, with a maximum size of 11 inches by 17 inches and should illustrate or describe an idea rather than depict a finished design. Animation ideas are welcome.
Submissions should include the contestant’s name, phone number and email address on the back of the entry. Digital copies should be emailed to CalPolyRoseFloat1949@gmail.com, with the subject line “2019 Concept.” Hand-drawn designs should be submitted to Cal Poly Pomona, Dean of Students, Building 26, Room 110, (or 3801 W. Temple Ave. Pomona, CA 91768).
The deadline is Friday, Feb. 9, at 5 p.m. There is no limit on the number of entries per person.
