Students crossing Eucalyptus Lane to get to classes, the Bronco Bookstore, the BRIC or the Residential Suites are urged to use crosswalks and look both ways for cars starting on Monday, Oct. 16.
Eucalyptus Lane will become the only access point for drivers to get to Parking Lot G, which primarily serves the Children’s Center and the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation offices (Building 55). Parking Lot G can be accessed using the Eucalyptus Lane entrance off University Drive.
On Friday, Oct. 13, contractor crews will paint lane markings and crosswalks and install stop and 5-mph speed limit signs on a portion of Eucalyptus Lane running from the Bronco Student Center to the Foundation offices.
Bronco Way has been the primary access route to Parking Lot G, but the installation of underground utilities for the Dining Commons component of the Student Housing Replacement Project has necessitated its closure. The intersection of Eucalyptus Lane and Bronco Way will be closed from Oct. 16 to Dec. 31.
Drivers should use caution on Eucalyptus Lane and be vigilant for pedestrians and bicyclists. Depending on the time of day, the area can contain a high volume of students. Bronco Commons, which is adjacent to Eucalyptus Lane, contains bike lanes and footpaths leading to the Residential Suites, Kellogg Gym and Parking Structure 2.
The Student Housing Replacement Project, which also consists of two eight-story mid-rise towers that will contain 980 beds and encompass 280,000 square feet, is being overseen by the Department of Planning, Design & Construction. The Dining Commons facility will be able to accommodate 680 people at a time.
