Local student receives prestigious scholarship

Turlock resident Edwin Betady, a Merced College student, plans to continue his education at Cal Poly Pomona this fall after receiving the Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship. The extremely competitive award provides recipients with fully-paid tuition and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense.

Why the popularity of solar in the Inland Empire is good news for green energy’s future

Cal Poly Pomona’s GRID Team students volunteer to install solar power to a low-income household in Rialto (see caption under the article’s photo). A total of 20 students from the university gave back to their local communities by participating in the annual Solar Spring Break, which brings solar power to underserved communities free of charge.

Ex-congressman to lead California Fresh Fruit Association

The Fresno-based California Fresh Fruit Association names George Radanovich, a former U.S, congressman, president effective Aug. 1. His predecessor, Barry Bedwell, will go on to head the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation. The foundation offers a leadership program in partnership with Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Fresno State and UC Davis.
