More than 1,000 votes were cast on Facebook in the Cal Poly Pomona summer term 2016 T-shirt design contest.
Garnering 400 votes, Billy Bronco relaxing in a hammock between two palm trees was the winner. Entries needed to capture the spirit of the university’s summer quarter and include the 2016 theme “Fast Pass to Graduation.”
The T-shirt will be sold in the Bronco bookstore in April. In addition, 250 randomly selected students who register during first week of general summer registration will receive free shirts, as will the first 100 students in priority registration. Philine Tran, a second-year business student with a concentration in computer information systems, was the winner and received $150 in Bronco Bucks.
Coming in second, with 397 votes, was a stylized CLA Popsicle, reminiscent of childhood summers, created by Shing Tung (Morgan) Cheung. In third place, with 89 votes, was Catherine Teague’s design of the CLA Building basking under the summer sun. Cheung and Teague will receive $50 and $25 in Bronco Bucks, respectively.
Forty renderings were submitted, and five finalists were chosen for the final round of voting on Facebook.
The contest, sponsored by the College of the Extended University and the Office of Public Affairs, was held to promote the university’s 2016 summer term, which will offer more courses that will advance students toward their degrees and has lower tuition fees than last year.
The summer 2016 course schedule will be available in BroncoDirect on March 21. Priority registration begins April 13. General registration starts April 18.
