The Special Olympics World Games came to Los Angeles this week, and Cal Poly Pomona participated by playing host recently to four delegations consisting of athletes of Laos, Poland, Libya and the Isle of Man.
The university, along with the cities of Pomona, Chino and Chino Hills, hosted the visitors, who stayed in on-campus housing from July 21-24. During their stay, the athletes enjoyed a visit from Danny’s Farms and feasted on a pancake breakfast.
The World Games kicked of July 25 and runs through Aug. 2.
Organizers anticipate the Special Olympics World Games will draw 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches representing 177 countries, as well as 30,000 volunteers and 500,000 spectators, when it takes place from July 25 to Aug. 2.
