Fine art, art history and graphic design will all be on prominent display in the Kellogg Art Gallery and the Huntley Gallery during PolyKroma.
PolyKroma, encompasses three events: 2D3D, the Fine Arts/Art History Senior Shows and the Graphic Design Senior Show/Industry Night.
2D3D, located in the Huntley Gallery, is an art competition that any art major can enter, juried by professionals in the industry. The show encompasses both graphic design and fine art, with displays along the walls and pedestals with pieces that allow viewers to don a pair of gloves to view and interact with them.
For the first time, scratch-paper artworks are included, which are generated on paper or board that allow the artist to scratch out the black, and reveal the white surface underneath in whatever design they choose.
The Art Department Senior Show displays the work from fine art, art history and graphic design students in the Kellogg Art Gallery. In the front gallery are the artworks by the fine arts students, utilizing many media including drawing, sculpture, wall-pieces made out of all hand-rolled paper, and more. In the back gallery are the graphic design students’ wall graphics, which are all based on their individual spirit animals. Underneath their graphic pieces are each of their portfolios, which will give viewers even more of an insight into their personal style and abilities.
Industry Night invites professionals to come and see the students’ career portfolios and network with them.
Curator Michele Cairella Fillmore says that there are many reasons it is important to have the space dedicated to student work.
“It gives the students an opportunity to show their work, and learn display techniques,” she says. “It also reflects what comes out of the Art Department and the College of Environmental Design. It also promotes the university to the outside world. We have professionals that come and see this work, and look for graphic designers and enjoy viewing the fine art exhibited.“
