Sixteen students will perform original rock, hip-hop and pop songs on May 15 and 16 at the 11th Songwriter Showcase.
Started in 2007 by Music Professor Arthur Winer, the showcase allows students to perform their original works in a concert setting. Students have performed about 220 original songs over the years, varying from rock, hip-hop and pop to folk, cabaret, Latin and country.
The students rehearse for about 10 weeks before the concert. This year’s songwriters include John Bender, Kyle Berzle, Patrick Braddock, Jessica Bustamente, Quintin Cummins, Charlie Doughan, Dan Gee, Chandler Kikunaga, George Lewis III, Evan Lomnitzer, Gabe Miranda, Sam Smiley, Elise Talens, Milena Tonis, Jeremy Uzzo and Sarah Watson.
In addition, alumni Megan Benavente, Tyrone Stokes and Brett Woods also will perform.
The showcase will be held at 8 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall in Building 24. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students. They are available at the door, online at http://csupomona.tix.com or at the Music Publicity Office, Building 24, room 188. Tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
Proceeds benefit music department scholarships. Each concert nets about $1,500 toward that end.
