CSU Chancellor Tim White’s visit to campus this week is just one of several upcoming events highlighted by President Ortiz in his weekly video update.
White, who started his new position in December, is visiting each of the 23 campuses in the CSU system. The Cal Poly Pomona community will have the chance to meet him during an open forum from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Bronco Student Center. The forum will be streamed live and available for viewing later.
Ortiz also offered his congratulations to the three recipients of the 2013 Provost’s Awards for Excellence.
Professor Laurie Starkey will receive the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Professor Ernie Simpson will be recognized with the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Service. Professor Vilupanur Ravi will receive the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activities.
The three honorees will be recognized at the upcoming commencement ceremonies. This fall, they will present their work and experience at the Provost’s Awards Symposium.
At commencement, the university also will bestow an honorary doctorate from the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences on music legend Paul Anka in recognition of his artistic and philanthropic achievements. He has been particularly generous to Cal Poly Pomona. He is the honorary chair of the $150 million Campaign for Cal Poly Pomona. In 2003 and 2006, he headlined the Founders’ Celebrations, which raised more than $560,000 dollars for student scholarships, equipment and research.
