President’s Video Update for Oct. 29

Posted on October 29, 2012

President's Video Update for Oct. 29

President Ortiz gives his video message on October 29, 2012.

Campus safety is a major topic in President Ortiz’s weekly video message. In light of two recent robbery reports on campus, public safety officials have stepped up patrols around campus. The president urges the entire campus community to stay alert and report potential safety issues.

Some general safety tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings. That means no texting and walking with your iPod on full blast.
  • Always report suspicious behavior to police. When in doubt, call police and let them figure it out.
  • Use a buddy system to watch out for your neighbors, classmates and coworkers.
  • Pre-program the University Police phone number into your mobile devices [University Police, (909) 869-3070].

President Ortiz also discusses the proposed Student Success Fee, which will have three open forums this week. Student feedback about the proposed fee will go to the university Feed Advisory Committee, which will then make a recommendation to the president.

Pizza with the Presidents is Thursday, Nov. 1 from noon to 1 p.m. in the University Quad. The event, which will have free pizza, is an opportunity for students to ask questions of President Ortiz and ASI President Chris Osuala. The Cal Poly Pomona Twitter account will be live-tweeing the Q&A.
