Sonnets Fundraiser to Benefit Summer Shakespeare Fest

Sonnets Fundraiser to Benefit Summer Shakespeare Fest

Rob Shields plays Hamlet in the Southern California Shakespeare Festival production of "Hamlet" on September 8, 2010.

The theatre department will host a Midsummer Nights Sonnets Fundraiser Wednesday, May 23 in courtyard of Union Plaza (old stables). The event will feature several of Shakespeare’s sonnets performed by students and professors.

The fundraiser will support this summer’s Shakespeare production, “The Tempest.” Linda Bisesti, theatre professor, produces the annual Southern California Shakespeare Festival on a very small budget.

Edward Rocklin, professor for the English and foreign languages department, will be performing Sonnet 23 at the fundraiser. He hopes the money raised will prove helpful to the production of “The Tempest.”

“I applaud Bisesti,” Rocklin says. “They basically do this on a shoestring. It’s very admirable.”

Performances will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the theatre office in Building 25, room 114 or by calling (909) 869-3800. For more information, call (909) 869-3987.
