Anne Simpson, professor in the Department of English & Foreign Languages, earned a second doctoral degree in psychoanalysis from the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles. Simpson has a doctoral degree in English as well. Her dissertation on ¿Feeling Real: Psychoanalysis, Disability, and Selfhood¿ was nominated for the Outstanding Thesis of the Year by three separate readers. Simpson originally became interested in psychoanalysis when writing a book that explored the fiction of modern British novelist Jean Rhys. She hopes to use this degree to see patients in a small private practice as well as her work at Cal Poly Pomona.
