With fall job fairs right around the corner, the Career Center is making sure students are prepared with positive attitudes, edited resumes and professional clothing.
The Career Center has been gathering donations of gently used professional attire from faculty, staff and alumni to put together a free closet for students. While the clothes are available now, the grand opening for the clothing racks will be Thursday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., outside of the center.
¿Students were coming in and saying they didn¿t have a suit or didn¿t have a dress,¿ says Trinette Briggs, a career counselor. ¿Now we can fill that need.¿
This is the first quarter this resource has been available, but the project has been in the works for a while, according to Gerard Russo, on-campus recruiting coordinator.
¿Prior to this we had a small rack, and people mostly heard about it by word of mouth,¿ Russo says. ¿Now it¿s really an organized effort.¿
Briggs, who helped Russo create the Clothes Closet, says the response has been overwhelming.
¿It¿s been great,¿ Briggs says. ¿Right now we have more clothes than we have racks for.¿
The Clothes Closet grand opening will be held on the same day as Resumaniac, a Career Center event at which students can receive resume coaching from career counselors and corporate recruiters. Resumaniac will be held inside the Career Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Two upcoming career fairs will give students the opportunity show off their polished resumes and professional wear while they seek potential jobs and internships. The Fall Career Fair on Oct. 11 and the Engineering/High-Tech Job Fair on Oct. 12 will both be held in the University Quad from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
