Kim Rhode, a four-time Olympic medalist in shooting events, has qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games. USA Shooting has nominated her, and is awaiting approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee, which is expected. If Rhode wins in London, she will become the only American to receive a medal in five consecutive Olympic Games.
Rhode, a food marketing and agribusiness student, won her first gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She went on to win a bronze in Sydney, a gold in Athens and a silver in Beijing.
After the games in Beijing, USA Shooting implemented a new requirement for prospective Olympians. Candidates must earn points at International Shooting Sport Federation World Cups and World Championships, which Rhode has done.
