[Updated Jan. 28, 2011] University Police officers are investigating multiple bicycle thefts on campus, including two reports on Wednesday afternoon near Denny’s and the Residential Suites.
In each case, suspects cut the bike locks using bolt cutters, according to police.
University Police say multiple suspects may be involved in the thefts. Suspects in the most recent cases were described as male and Latino; one was about 5-foot-5 and another was described as heavy set. One suspect was wearing a baggy black T-shirt.
Police strongly encourage bicycle owners to use U-locks or bar locks to secure their bikes. Owners should also record their bicycle’s serial number, make and model, and any unique or distinguishing features to aid in recovery in the event of a theft.
Bicycles may be registered with the University Police Department in Building 109, at the southeast corner of the parking structure.
The campus community is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or persons to police by calling (909) 869-3070. Anonymous tips may be called in to (909) 869-3399.
