Hot Dog Caper is More Than a Free Meal

Hot Dog Caper is More Than a Free Meal

Crowds of students line up for hot dogs at the 2009 Hot Dog Caper.

Cal Poly Pomona welcomes the campus community back to school at the 27th Annual Hot Dog Caper on Tuesday, Sept. 28. Each year, students, faculty and staff come together in University Park to enjoy free hot dogs, chips, ice cream and Pepsi drinks. This annual tradition also includes music, games and fun activities that promote Bronco Spirit.

Commander Chuck Street, the popular traffic reporter from KIIS-FM, will land his Pepsi helicopter on the grass next to Union Plaza, kicking off the event at 11:30 a.m.

This year’s theme takes people back to a simpler time. The logo depicts a hot dog at the wheel of a vintage convertible, leisurely cruising campus roads.

This event is made possible through the partnership of Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, Inc., The Pepsi Bottling Group, AT&T, First Class Vending, Associated Students, Inc. and Facilities Planning & Management.

A team of nearly 500 volunteers, including administrators, staff, and student-athletes, distribute more than 12,000 hot dogs during the event.

For more information on this event, contact Laura Orozco at (909) 869-2912 or email lauraorozco@cpp.edu.
