In Memoriam: Engineering student Jasen Strand

Posted on June 29, 2010

Mechanical engineering student Jasen A. Strand, 25, passed away June 21 from Tracheo-Arterial Fistula, a complication of the trach he was dependent on for breathing.

Viewing and services will be held Saturday, July 3 at Crest Lawn Mortuary, 11500 Arlington Ave. in Riverside. The viewing for family and friends is at 10 a.m. and services are at 2 p.m. Following the service, a celebration of Jasen’s life will be held at the Strand home, and all are welcome. Cards may also be sent to this address: Pete and Tina Strand (Jasen’s parents), 6570 Avenida Michaelinda, Riverside, CA 92509.

Friends are encouraged to sign an online memory book.

Jasen was diagnosed with Duchene’s Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 6, but it didn’t stop him from living his life to the fullest — playing wheelchair basketball; trying out wheelchair moto-cross; being an uncle; going to Las Vegas, monster truck shows, concerts and NASCAR; or attending college to become a mechanical engineer.

Jasen is survived by his parents Peter and Tina Strand; sisters Brandace and Candace Jackson; grandparents Naomi Strand and Elaine Jackson; nieces Cassidy Jackson and Trista Ramos; nephew Connor Holland; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
