Business Speaker Shares Networking Strategies

Hank Blank, chief executive officer of Laguna Nigel-based Blank & Associates

Hank Blank, an advertising and marketing executive, will be the featured guest at the Executive Speaker Series on Thursday, April 8 hosted by College of Business Administration Alumni Chapter. Blank’s presentation will focus on effective networking techniques that can help people land their dream jobs or attract more customers to their businesses.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with Blank’s keynote speech to begin at 5 p.m. at Kellogg West Conference Center. Event tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association members. Cal Poly Pomona students receive a discounted price of $5.

Blank is the chief executive officer of Laguna Nigel-based Blank & Associates, which assists companies with new business development, advertising, public relations and brand development as well as using new media strategies such as social networking and interactive services.

Blank has 25 years of advertising and marketing experience that includes working with major brands such as Century 21, Kellogg’s and Subway. After years of learning the best way to promote products, Blank incorporated some of those techniques for people looking to strengthen and extend the longevity of their careers.

“Networking is a very powerful tool,” Blank said. “Seventy-five percent of all business deals come from networking. The phenomenal growth of social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter attests to the power of networking, yet most people have no clue on how to effectively network. They need to supplement social networking with personal networking. Face time not Facebook leads to relationships.”

The College of Business Administration and the alumni chapter are committed to providing career development opportunities for current and former students. In addition to the Executive Speaker Series, INSIDE TRACK networking socials are offered once a month in the Inland Empire and in Orange County. The networking events are free to alumni, students and anyone who wants to partner with the College of Business Administration.

The Executive Speaker Series will continue Dec. 10 when Tim Mead, senior vice president of communications for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, will speak.
