The 2008-09 academic year kicks off Monday, Sept. 22 with Fall Conference, an annual tradition at Cal Poly Pomona. The three-day event begins with a university-wide breakfast and convocation at 8 a.m. in the Engineering Meadow, featuring President Ortiz's State of the University Address.
Immediately following, the Service Awards ceremony recognizes all employees with more than 10 years of service. The day concludes with the Fall Conference Reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the University Library, celebrating the library's grand reopening and welcoming Provost Marten L. denBoer.
Fall Conference 2008 continues on Tuesday, Sept. 23 with various school, college, department and division meetings.
BroncoFusion, a daylong event to welcome new students to campus, begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, the day before classes start. All new incoming students are encouraged to attend workshops, learn about key academic support services, buy books, get a head start on classes, participate in a mixer, and connect with faculty, staff and other students. The event also includes a free barbecue dinner in the Engineering Meadow and a Club Fair in the Library Walkway.
BroncoFusion wraps up with a free concert sponsored by Associated Students, Inc. from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Local favorite Rx Bandits will be this year's headlining band, and other performances include a mix of indie, progressive and alternative rock music.
