Record high temperatures didn't stop Cal Poly Pomona staff from celebrating Staff Appreciation Day on June 19. About 1,000 people attended some of the many activities throughout the daylong celebration, which was organized by Staff Council.

Four staff members received an Outstanding Staff Award. The award recipients are: Mark Bailey, College of Engineering; Mike Candelaria, Distribution Services; Sandi Davis, Office of the President; and Brett Roth, Foundation Dining Services. Complete bios can be found on the second page of the Staff Council Newsletter.

Keynote speaker Paul Caligiuri kicked off the day's activities with an inspirational and motivational message. Other activities included tours of the Arabian Horse Center and Bio-Trek, several workshops, an awards luncheon and the annual staff variety show, hosted by Police Chief Mike Guerin.

This year's show included two new acts, stand-up comedy and tap dancing, as well as perennial favorites such as swing dancing, musical performances and a physics demonstration.

With the theme “We Are the Champions,” Staff Appreciation Day is a way to thank staff members for another outstanding year.
