Staff Council will host the annual Service Awards Ceremony on Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. Each year, awards are presented during Fall Conference to all employees with more than 10 years of service.

Urban Planning Projects Receive Praise from Area Professionals

Two student community planning projects have been recognized by the Los Angeles section of the American Planning Association (APA). The "Arcadia City Center: Reinventing Place" project won the 2008 Academic Award and the "Vermont Avenue Environmental & Community Opportunities" project received the 2008 Special Merit Award at the Planning Awards ceremony.

Rhonda L. Rhodes 
and Joyce Kupsh, professor and professor emeritus, respectively, of Technology and Operations Management, wrote a four-part series for Business Clue, a Russian business publication for managers and CEOs. The articles, which ran from March to June, were titled "Positive Communication: Create Respect and Deliver the Product," "Make Your Written Documents Come Alive," "Presenting with Confidence," and "Challenge the Mind — Be Creative in Your Presentation." Ron Carruth

Ron Carruth, adjunct professor in the Educational Administrative Credential Program, has been appointed superintendent of the Whittier City School District. Currently assistant superintendent of education services at Whittier Union High School District, Carruth will oversee 6,400 students in the K-8 district. He has 20 years of experience at the middle and high school levels and has won several awards for his leadership and teaching. Carruth begins his new assignment Aug. 1.
