The 3D Leadership Conference has helped students all across campus discover the leader in themselves for the past three years, and this year's conference is no different.
Themed “images of a leader,” the seven-hour event Oct. 26 features keynote speaker Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, workshops and panels with various leaders including President Michael Ortiz.
Register by Oct. 22 to attend the free conference and hear Valdes-Rodriguez speak about her experiences and what it takes to become a leader. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center.
Valdes-Rodriguez is considered to be the godmother of “Chica Lit,” a branch of the literary genre, “Chick Lit,” that targets Latinas. She has earned various titles and is distinguished as a prominent figure in the Hispanic community. Valdes-Rodriguez was named a breakout literary star by Entertainment Weekly, as well as one of the 25 Most Influential Hispanics in America by Time Magazine, and “Woman of the Year” by Latina Magazine.
“Don't underestimate the skills gained from being a student leader, a volunteer and/or a student assistant. Skills gained by being engaged on campus are valuable and transferable,” said Dora Lee, senior coordinator for the Office of Student Life & Cultural Centers.
After listening to the keynote speaker, students will get a chance to attend workshops to learn more about their own personal leadership development. Workshops offered such as “What Is Leadership?” and “What Is Your Leadership Style?” will provide valuable information for student leaders and aspiring student leaders alike. The workshops will count toward the Student Development & Leadership Institute (SDLI) workshop series.
James Bell Intern Karl Harris will facilitate a panel that will feature other student leaders such as ASI President Chris Wyrick. This dicussion will provide insight on how they came to be the leaders they are, and what it takes to be a leader.
The 3D Leadership Conference is a part of SDLI. Under the umbrellaof SDLI, 3D is collaboratively planned by ASI, Office of Student Life & Cultural Centers and University Housing Services. The speaker is sponsored by the Distinguished Lecture Series and ASI Bronco Events and Activities Team (B.E.A.T.).
