|Hundreds of people gathered for Fall Conference.|
Fall Conference kicks off Monday, Sept. 18 with President Michael Ortiz' annual state-of-the-university speech.
Fall Conference is a 34-year-old tradition at Cal Poly Pomona. It is a time to get into gear for the new academic year and praise faculty, staff and students for their contributions to the university.
Festivities start at 8 a.m. at the Meadow, near the Engineering Lab. The entire university community is invited to hear President Ortiz' convocation and have breakfast with colleagues.
From 10:30 a.m. until noon, 196 employees, who together total 3,540 years of service, will be honored during the 2006 Service Awards Ceremony at the Ursa Major Suite in the Bronco Student Center.
The day continues with a new staff welcome reception at 1 p.m. at the Meadow; a learning-centered symposium featuring John Tagg, author of “The Learning Paradigm College” at 1:30 p.m. at the Bronco Student Center; and the President's Reception at the Manor House at 4 p.m.
Tuesday is set aside for school, college, department and division meetings.
BroncoFusion, which will run all day Wednesday, is geared toward new students. There will be several workshops, a barbeque, and concert by Plain White T's to cap off the evening.
Also Wednesday, the California Faculty Association, and Counseling & Psychological Service will have open houses. There will also be a benefits orientation for faculty that day.
On Oct. 3, the Faculty Center for Professional Development will continue the seasonal welcome, with an open house designed to be a one-stop-shop for faculty to learn about the numerous resources available to them. The open house will be 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the center located in Building 1-228.
