Construction to Begin on Modular Classrooms & Offices at Music Bowl

In preparation for Science Building 3's seismic upgrade and renovation project, the university is preparing to install modular units to provide supplemental classroom and office space. These new spaces will help offset the loss of space during construction and serve the needs of faculty, staff and students. Construction of this "modular village" is expected to begin April 6 and is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 9.

Frederick Gallegos, adjunct professor, Computer Information Systems, and Matthew L. Smith, MSBA-IS Audit graduate candidate and IT Security Analyst for Foundstone, co-authored an article, “Red Teams: An Audit Tool, Techniques and Methodology for Information Assurance,” which appears on pages 51-56 in the Information Systems Control Journal, Volume 2, 2006. The journal is a peer reviewed publication. Gallegos gave a presentation on “Information Assurance and Compliance Issues and Concerns for Government Auditors and Managers” at the Association of Government Accountants Annual Education Conference on Feb. 14 at the Hacienda Hotel in El Segundo.

Daniel Manson, professor, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Frederick Gallegos, adjunct professor, CIS, and Anna Carlin, lecturer, CIS, presented a three-hour workshop, “Curriculum Development in Information Security and Assurance,” at the Secure IT Conference on March 21 in Anaheim. Carlin and Manson presented another session, “Teaching Computer Forensics Using Student Developed Evidence Files,” on March 22. Manson was also a co-presenter on “Passing the Flame: How to Leverage an Information Assurance Bootcamp Experience” on March 23. Gallegos discussed “ISACA 2005 Model Curriculum for IT Audit Education: A Measure of Excellence” on March 23. Jeffrey Hoffman

Jeffrey Hoffman, associate director for marketing & programs, Associated Students Inc., was elected to the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Board of Trustees on Dec. 20, 2005. As a trustee, Hoffman, in collaboration with other experienced higher education professionals on the board, will provide strategic direction and guidance during his two-year term. Before his appointment, he was the ACUI Region 15 director. ACUI brings together college unions and activities professionals from nearly 1,000 schools worldwide to enhance campus life through programs, services and publications.
