Cal Poly Pomona Golf Tournament Set to Tee-Off

The 26th annual Bronco Golf Classic is just days away and the Cal Poly Pomona event is shaping up as one of the summers must-attend events. The event, presented by Energized Distribution, L.L.C., will be held on Monday, June 27 at the South Hills Country Club in West Covina.

Art Barajas, a Cal Poly Pomona alumnus, is the South Hills Country Club general manager. Although the golfing portion of the tournament is sold out, there are still dinner tickets available for $40. For more information about the dinner, call (909) 869-2825. There will be a no-host reception beginning at 4 p.m. in the clubhouse and dinner will be served at 5 p.m.

The tournament is held to raise scholarship funds for Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes. With the increasing costs for education, the importance of these types of fund-raisers for student-athletes are critical. All proceeds from the tourney will go to student-athlete scholarships and tournament organizers are expecting to raise more than $50,000.

Several key relationships are making the event is success this year. Energized Distribution, L.L.C. is the title sponsor this year. Gold sponsors include Penske Motorcars, Sanders Candy Factory and Bel-Air Swap Meet.

There will be four separate chances to win cars in hole-in-one contests. The contests are being sponsored by Penske Motorcars Mercedes-Benz, Longo Toyota, Longo Lexus and Penske Honda.

In addition, Cal Poly Pomona President Michael Ortiz will once again host his tee-off fundraiser on the 10th hole to support the tourney. Ortiz will hit tee shots for a small fee to raise money for scholarships.

Those who cannot attend the event but who would still like to contribute to Cal Poly Pomona student-athlete scholarships are encouraged to call Julie Hall at (909) 869-2825.
