Parking Structure Groundbreaking Set for Feb. 8; Construction to Impact Traffic & Parking on Campus

The campus community is invited to attend the official groundbreaking ceremony for Parking Structure I on Tuesday, Feb. 8. The details of the ceremony are available here. The physical start of construction is slated to begin between Feb. 14-25. While the project will have minimal impact on faculty/staff parking lots, it will have a significant impact on the availability of student parking and traffic congestion in general on the campus.

Help Fight Cancer During Daffodil Days

Daffodil Days returns to Cal Poly Pomona this spring! Funds raised from Daffodil Days help to support vital cancer research; promote cancer education and awareness; serve those in the community who need the American Cancer Society and spread hope of a world free of cancer. Available arrangements include $10 for a bunch of daffodils, $18 for a bunch and vase, $35 for a vision arrangement, $75 for a friendship arrangement, and more. Gifts of Hope are another option that allows participants to buy an arrangement to be delivered anonymously to cancer patients in a hospital or rehabilitation center close to campus. Staff Council Trip to Laughlin

The Staff Council invites Cal Poly Pomona staff, family and friends who are at least 21 years of age on a turnaround trip to Laughlin, Nev., on Saturday, March 12. Staff will meet on campus in Parking Lot C (near the front of the CLA Building) to depart at 7 a.m. and return at 11:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per person, and non-refundable payment must be received by Friday, Feb. 25. A Message From President Michael Ortiz

Colleagues ... By next month, we will have completed half of the 2004-05 academic year. During my Fall Conference address, I identified a number of important initiatives that we needed to collectively address as we work to elevate Cal Poly Pomona. Each of them requires a high level of participation from faculty and staff alike, but these are the decisions that will define the future of our university.

Robert L. Hurt

Robert L. Hurt professor, Accounting, was awarded the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners on Dec. 3, 2004. Hurt met a stringent set of criteria to join the ranks of 14,000 business and government professionals who detect, investigate and defer allegations of fraud and white-collar crime.
