In Memoriam: Music Professor Emeritus Phillip Clarke
Music Professor Emeritus Phillip Clarke died from cancer on Oct. 16.

Phillip Clarke, a professor emeritus in the Music department, died from cancer on Oct. 16. He was 61 years old.

A resident of Upland, Clarke taught piano and other music classes at Cal Poly Pomona for 22 years. Clarke and Donald Ambroson, professor of Liberal Studies, raised more than $10,000 through Duo Concertante recitals over the past two decades. This money went toward the Music department's first endowed scholarship. Clarke retired in Spring 2004.

“We will miss Phillip for all of his musical contributions, but, more than anything else, for his spirit of joy,” says Janet Noll, accompanist in the Music department.

Clarke is survived by wife, Bobbi, and daughters Heather and Catherine.

A memorial service for Clarke will take place Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1:30 p.m. at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 N. Garey Ave. in Pomona. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to the Phillip Clarke Memorial Piano Scholarship. Donations can be sent to: Cal Poly Pomona Music Department, c/o Iris Levine, 3801 W. Temple Ave., Pomona, CA 91768. For more information on the scholarship, contact Iris Levine, Music department chair, at (909) 869-4566 or by e-mail at ilevine@cpp.edu.
