University Signs Relationship With Alumni Association

The Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association and the university have officially formalized a 31-year relationship. University President Bob H. Suzuki, and Jon Lundstrom ?76, 2002-03 president of the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association, signed the Memorandum of Agreement in the presence of directors of the Alumni Association who crafted the document.

Jennifer Schufer

Schufer , coordinator, Visitor & Information Centers, gave a presentation on ?Assessment at Cal Poly Pomona's Visitor Center? at the Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association's (CIVSA) national conference, June 7-11, in Lincoln, Neb. Schufer was also elected as the Region I director for the association. Region 1 consists of members from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. The position's responsibilities include the recruitment of new members, retention of current members, and actively participating at the executive board meetings during the year and at the national conference.

Phillips , assistant professor and director, Center for Food
Marketing & Agribusiness Solutions, presented a paper at the
annual meeting of the Western Coordinating Committee (WCC) ? 72 on June 9 in Las Vegas. His paper, ?Analysis of Strategic Marketing Decisions for Organic Agricultural Producers,? was part of a session on industry food safety actions. The WCC – 72 is a USDA-chartered organization of scholars interested in agribusiness research, focusing on competitiveness and profitability. More than three dozen researchers from throughout the United States and Canada attended this year's meeting.

Michael Carney

Carney , professor, Finance & Real Estate, was a featured real estate speaker at the Business First Conference, ?Bubble or Trend,? on June 26 at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara. He presented an update of Southern California home price trends and forecasts for the year ahead.

Fred Roth

Roth , professor, Horticulture/Plant & Soil Science, was recently selected to receive the first ?Richard W. Harris Award for Excellence in Education? by the Western Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture.

Amelia Hammond Staff Council Scholarship

Cal Poly Pomona staff members who have been employed at least half-time for a year or more are invited to apply for the Amelia Hammond Staff Council Scholarship. Recipients are to use the funds for career development or personal job improvement education which is not covered by released-time or fee-waiver programs. Courses may be taken at community colleges, colleges, universities or technical schools. Courses may be taken for credit, non-credit or technical training. Scholarships are for use in the following semester or quarter of school.
