An evening honoring educational legacy and featuring an entertainment legend is planned as Cal Poly Pomona hosts Founders? Celebration 2003: A Notable Night on Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Pacific Palms Resort in the City of Industry.
A special performance by Paul Anka, the internationally acclaimed singer and songwriter, will highlight the evening. In addition, well-known local television personality Stephanie Edwards will serve as the program?s mistress of ceremonies.
Founders? Celebration 2003, the university?s premier social and support event, will be a night for tributes and entertainment. As always, the evening will honor many involved with supporting the university?s educational mission and future vision. And because this year?s gala will be the last during Bob H. Suzuki?s 12-year tenure as Cal Poly Pomona?s president, there will be special recognition accorded to President and Mrs. Suzuki for their efforts and accomplishments.
?Cal Poly Pomona enjoys tremendous benefits from its many alumni, friends and supporters,? says associate vice president for development Ron Simons. ?This is a occasion where we can recognize those who help Cal Poly Pomona continue its tradition of excellence.?
The evening begins with a hosted reception at 5 p.m., followed by the dinner and a voice auction. The Anka performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.
With over 900 songs to his credit, Anka?s musical compositions are known throughout the world and have been recorded by some of the greatest names in the entertainment industry.
As a singer, he is one of a rare few artists to have a record appear on Billboard?s Top 50 charts for five consecutive decades, ranking him alongside music legends Elvis Presley and the Beatles as one of Billboard Magazine?s most successful artists ever.
Anka has achieved success in all entertainment venues: recording, stage, screen and television. He enjoyed five top-20 hits before turning 18, was the first North American pop star to play behind the iron curtain, was elected by the National Academy of Popular Music to The Songwriter?s Hall of Fame, and has been honored with the French government?s Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters.
Founders? Celebration is Cal Poly Pomona?s annual event to raise funds for student scholarships and academic enhancement. Tickets including both the dinner and the performance are available for $375 per person, with tables priced from $3,500 to $25,000.
