"Promises" Begins New Film Series

The Peace With Justice Center of the Pomona Valley presents a showing of "Promises: A Peacemaking Project in the Middle East" on Saturday, Oct. 12., at 6:30 p.m. at the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center, 300 W. Second St. in Pomona. This Academy Award nominated documentary reveals the emotions, experiences and views of seven Palestinian and Israeli children on the conflict between their peoples. "Promises" follows the journey of filmmaker B.Z. Goldberg, an American who grew up in Jerusalem and was a journalist during the intifada (Palestinian uprising). Over the course of four years, filmmakers B.Z. and Justine Shapiro were welcomed into the daily lives of these seven children and their families. Each child offers a dramatic, emotional and sometimes hilarious insight into what it's like growing up in the charged and complex city of Jerusalem. This showing of "Promises" kicks off the Peace with Justice Center's 10-month film series at the Downtown Center. All films are free and open to the public. For more information, call (909) 988-0866.
